This song has seen a lot of lyrical transformation.
It's previous edition was heavy with anger stemming from Keller leaving to LA. I felt it very selfish of him, especially considering the timing. The way I handled it wasn't beneficial for anyone and I actually ended up doing some harm to relationships that I hold dear. Fast forward, WMM split and I joined Burning Twilight for a bit. At the time, Keller and Ethan started writing their own jams and Keller got his fair share of words back at me. Once we had all talked and repaired everything to it's previous state, we started recording this album. Once this song came up, we all laughed uneasily at how mad it was. I was told to leave it as is, but I just wasn't close to the content anymore.
After some intense reflection, I thought about how blind and stupid my hate was. I was projecting all of my own problems onto one of my greatest friends that I'll ever know.
It was then that I redirected the song back at myself.
It was then that I experienced relief and a connection to the song once more.
Keller, I hope you know how sorry I am for causing our friendship's integrity to waver. This song will always be a reminder of how important you are to me and who I am.
I love you, brother.

lyrics
What eats at my heart will eat at your thoughts
In the same way these words devoured our ties
Any strength I have left's an illusion
Conjured by these selfish conclusions
See the fear on my shoulders?
My courage forsaken?
Yes, I have mistaken you for the shepherd and so much more
I last expected a tyrant
A worthy archetype of the crown
But we all play the fool one time or another
(I expected so much more from you)
But a spectacle of paranoia eating away potential is all I get
Shattered bones and accepting the overgrown is the closest we'll ever be to perfect
These decisions kill me
A part of our friendship that I don't understand
There's no lost pride in admitting I'm wrong every now and again
We’re both troubled souls
I’m a hollowed whole who finds his filling in how we feel
Reveal, I beg you, reveal
I'm only giving you more reasons to push me away
What I want the most is for you to stay
My intentions are in your favor
And I’m happy to be here again
My faith has grown and with it
Limits will be broken
